Phillip Lorca Di Corcia

I have chose to include these images as i think they display a stark contrast from the portraits by Clare Strand (previous post)

Phillip Lorca Di Corcia is known for his "cheeky" and "sly" photographs of peoples he makes into his subject without them neither knowing or consenting.
I think that is half the appeal in these street portraits. When i look at the people he captures, very often you can see the intense and natural expressions on their faces. They are deep in thought, in a world of their own, and again i question what it is they are thinking about, where they are going and so on.
It's almost like the awkward moment when you are staring at someone, then they catch you and you make eye contact for a split second before looking away - only in his photographs there is no fear of being caught, we as the viewer are free to look for as long as we like scrutinising the subject.

Another series by Phillip Lorca Di Corcia, displays portraits on location, only the feeling of a spontanious capture is taken away by the fact that he paid his subjects to pose for him.
