Rut Blees Luxemburg

Born - 1967.
German photographer who captures the city at night/early hours of the morning exploring the urban environment. she displays a key interest in the landscape and it's effect on people.
she uses long exposures and a large format camera to capture the street lights.
Two of her images have been used as album covers for the streets and bloc party.

"when you enter a city for the first time you tend to be more visually sensitive" (page 204 - Art Photography Now - Susan Bright)

I like the way these photographs almost alter the perceptions of the city at night. capturing reflections and lights, she depicts the urban environment as a bold and captivating location that never sleeps. Although people aren't visible in the photographs there is still that suggestion of human interaction and presence, in a way.
The colours in her photographs almost animate them in an almost romantic way.
the images transform the preconception of the city at night from being threatening to something much more exciting.
